Style of architecture Gothic

The monastery was founded in 1032 by Prince Oldřich and hermit Prokop. Under the administration of the National Institute of Natural History in Prague, you can go on a sightseeing tour of Svatoprokopská Sázava. The pilgrimage site of St. Prokop under the administration of the Roman Catholic parish offers a tour of the Czech patron saint St. Prokop.

Each of the tours is different, they do not compete with each other, but on the contrary, they complement and refer to each other, as they lead along different routes and objects of the Sázava Monastery. It is up to you which of the tours you choose. However, if you want to see the whole Sázava Monastery, we recommend visiting both tours.

The Sázava Monastery is an important place in terms of spiritual and material culture. At the same time, Sázava is also a place of pilgrimage associated with the veneration of the first Czech saint canonized by the Pope. The spiritual centre of the whole Sázava monastery is the Church of St. Procopius, where part of the relics of this patron saint of the country are preserved. Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims have been making pilgrimages here to seek God's blessing through the intercession of St. Prokop.

The grounds of the Sázava Monastery include a church and a state part. There is one tour in each part.

The National Heritage Institute runs the St. Procopius of Sázava tour in the building of the dissolved monastery. The tour includes the Baroque refectory, the chapter hall, the cloister with rich Baroque and Gothic fresco decoration and the exposition "Old Slavonic Sázava". Visitors can also explore the area through an interactive video-audio tour on a mobile phone called Sázava in the Changes of Time. In the northern garden of the monastery there are the foundations of the 11th century Church of the Holy Cross.

The part of the site managed by the National Museum of Natural History is open seasonally.

The Sázava parish operates a pilgrimage area with a tour of the Czech patron saint St. Procopius, which includes an interpretation about this saint and a visit to the still closed parts of the church of St. Procopius as well as an interpretation about the unbuilt Gothic torso. As of 2021, the entire pilgrimage site has been completely renovated. The pilgrimage site includes the church of St. Procopius and the unbuilt Gothic torso. The background is the rectory building. The tour includes an interpretation about St. Procopius and the beginnings of the Sázava Monastery. Another point is the Baroque interior of the church, the Chapel of Our Lady with the newly restored altar of St. Martin. Then the visitor will see the Chapel of St. Barbara on the first floor of the church, see the organ and the gallery of St. Procopius. The whole tour ends in the crypt, which is newly equipped with a chandelier with Old Slavonic inscriptions.

The part of the complex administered by the Roman Catholic Church is open all year round.
